Head of Mobile Applications Development

£50000 - £70000 per annum + Benefits

We are seeking a Mobile Applications Lead to join the UKs leading engineering support services organisation. This is a new role to lead a Greenfield mobile applications service. With many varied projects in the pipeline this will be an exciting and rewarding opportunity.

  • Primarily responsible for the internal and external delivery of mobile applications for key business applications to employees, customers and suppliers. They will manage a mobile app delivery pipeline from identified business need, through selection, procurement or development, deployment, ongoing management and retirement.
  • The person will liaise with the Business, IT management, mobile device and software vendors, IT security and first line support.
  • To lead the group wide Mobile application practice engaging with business leadership teams across the Group.
  • Deliver and lead the practice including standards, support and development of mobile applications across Group internally and externally.
  • Understand business strategies, requirements and support their transplantation into IT strategies and solutions.
  • To develop and maintain a community of stakeholders and users across the business as a design authority for mobile applications
  • Deliver a system and functional roadmap and standards for the delivery of mobile applications across the group.
  • Manage the total cost of ownership is actively managed and agreed with the design authority.
  • Deliver and manage a mobile applications strategy in conjunction with the IS infrastructure teams
  • Manage and maintain pipeline of mobile apps
  • Resolve conflicts of backend applications, mobile OS and mobile applications
  • Help business prioritise mobile apps opportunities and create business cases to manage through a collective roadmap for mobile application delivery
  • Manage a standard process to decide on how requirements are delivered - including decisions such or buy / build. Engage technical, security and functional architects in the process as needed.

Key Skills

  • An understanding of IT application lifecycle - ideally from an ITIL service management viewpoint
  • Information Technology experience, preferably with customer applications and mobile applications, mobile application support and development using toolsets, but not limited to; Xamarin, Visual Studio, Eclipse, Google Studio and Zeplin
  • Experience creating a documentation to govern the delivery, management and support, develop and upgrade mobile applications
  • Experience with Mobile Device Management (MDM) and Mobile Application Management (MAM) solutions
  • Experience managing the mobile application distribution process - including areas such as Apple app provisioning, Android app signing and so on.
  • Knowledge of mobile testing technologies e.g. HockeyApp, TestFlight Google Play Beta and solid experience of testing mobile applications using mobile emulators
  • Knowledge of mobile development technologies such as Apple xcode, Android studio, Visual studio, HTML 5 and an understanding of the trade-offs in different types of app delivery e.g. native, hybrid or mobile web app
  • Clean driving license and willingness to travel
  • Must have or be eligible to gain SC Clearance
